Για να κατευνάσει τους διεθνείς δανειστές;

red rock:

Greece's fragile coalition government is in disarray after the prime minister tipped the country into an unexpected crisis following a decision to shut down the state broadcaster with immediate effect to meet bailout austerity measures.
{απόφαση να κλείσει τον κρατικό ραδιοτηλεοπτικό σταθμό, με άμεση ισχύ για να ανταποκριθεί σε μέτρα λιτότητας του σχεδίου διάσωσης}.

Greek Prime Minister Antonis Samaras was tonight facing a political revolt after pulling the plug on the country’s state broadcaster in the middle of the night.
News presenters were cut off mid-sentence when Hellenic Broadcasting Corporation (ERT), the 75-year-old state television station, was dragged off-air just hours after the decision was announced, in what the government described as a temporary measure to stem the flow of wasted taxpayers’ money into a channel plagued by “excesses”.
The move is intended to pacify Greece’s international lenders and demonstrate the government’s willingness to move ahead with reforms in the debt-plagued nation.

ATHENS — Under pressure from its creditors to cut public employment, the Greek government said Tuesday that it was closing down its state-run television and radio broadcaster, idling 2,900 people — less than 1 percent of the public work force — and outraging the country’s powerful labor unions.
Describing the Hellenic Broadcasting Corporation, known as ERT, as a “haven of waste,” a government spokesman said ERT, which went off the air at 11 p.m. local time, would reopen soon as a “modern state organization” […]
The move came just days after one of Greece’s lenders, the International Monetary Fund — while acknowledging “serious errors” in the austerity policies it has imposed on the country — chastised the government as having failed to take “politically difficult measures” to shrink the public sector since it received its first bailout in 2010.
{Η κίνηση αυτή ήρθε λίγες μόλις μέρες αφότου ο ένας από τους δανειστές της Ελλάδας, το Διεθνές Νομισματικό Ταμείο, αν και αναγνωρίζει «σοβαρά λάθη» στις πολιτικές λιτότητας που έχει επιβάλει στη χώρα, επέπληξε την κυβέρνηση ότι απέτυχε να λάβει "πολιτικά δύσκολα μέτρα" για να συρρικνωθεί ο δημόσιος τομέας, δεδομένου ότι έλαβε το πρώτο πακέτο διάσωσης το 2010}
Athens promised its creditors this week to dismiss 4,000 civil servants this year, including 2,000 by the end of the summer and 15,000 by the end of 2014.

The government moved Wednesday to calm protests over its abrupt decision to shut Greece's public broadcaster while promising again that operations would resume in a few weeks—albeit most likely with a much smaller staff and budget.
The decision to radically revamp Greek Radio and Television, known as ERT, is the boldest move yet by Greece to slash its bloated public sector workforce, after dragging its feet for years in complying with demands by international lenders {απαιτήσεις των διεθνών δανειστών} .
